Shelley Ware, Fall 2005 Employee of the Quarter
Shelley Ware was honored with the Fall 2005 Employee of the Quarter award at MCDH. Nominated by numerous co-workers, Ware is described as being a great supervisor who always jumps in to any given situation to solve a problem or lend a helping hand. According to colleagues, she never gets flustered, is knowledgeable, smart, brave, and good with patients, and is always a pleasure to work with.
Ware joined MCDH in August 1984 as a Registered Nurse in the medical/surgical unit. In April of 1997, she trained and transferred her nursing skills to the Critical Care Unit. Two years ago, she transferred to the float pool, meaning that she is able to meet the clinical nursing needs in all different departments. After hours and on weekends, Ware is the primary resource person for the whole hospital.
"I love everyone I work with – the nurses, physicians and ancillary staff. Everyone is so supportive,” explains Ware. She especially enjoys the versatile nature of her job as a float nurse, with the constant changes in pace and departments. “Every day brings something different and new,” she says, which adds to her job satisfaction. Ware effectively balances her career with family life, saving time for two of her favorite things: her 4-year-old daughter and playing tennis.
MCDH selects its Employee of the Quarter from nominations received from hospital employees, medical staff, volunteers and patients. Honorees are rewarded with their photo in the Hall of Fame and their name engraved on a plaque, a certificate, a check for $150, a prime parking space for a quarter, and are in the running for Employee of the Year award.
