Soroptimist International of Noyo Sunrise is giving a rose to each woman having a mammogram at MCDH during the month of October in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Regular screening mammograms are the best way for women over 40 to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. According to researchers, more than 70% of women now participate in routine screening mammograms, although they are underutilized by low-income and minority women. Medicare, Medi-Cal and other private insurance plans cover regular screening mammograms for women over the age of 40.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, and the second leading cause of cancer death, following lung cancer. Early detection greatly increases a woman’s chances for successful treatment of breast cancer.
Nationwide in 2006, an estimated 211,000 new breast cancer cases will be diagnosed. A wider array of treatment options are available following early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.
The Department of Health and Human Services recognizes MCDH’s mammography program as an excellent quality service. MCDH mammography technologists are well known for making the experience as comfortable and friendly as possible.
Encourage the women over age 40 in your life to schedule a screening mammogram, and receive a rose from Soroptimist International of Noyo Sunrise, during the month of October. Call the MCDH Diagnostic Imaging Department at 961-4665 to schedule an appointment.
